Hot August Music Festival started 23 years ago with 2 acts at Brad Selko’s farm and has evolved to a beautiful music festival at Oregon Ridge Park, Cockeysville, Md.
with 3 stages and an incredible mix of music! This years line up included a wide mix of bands spread out between the 3 stages. On the Paypal stage, which sits in this beautiful cove in the woods was: The Sligo Creek Stompers, Hollis Brown, Dennis Jones Band, Cabinet, and Jarekus Singleton! On the Professional Vision Zeiss Stage was; June Star, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, The Revivalists, and The Infamous String Dusters! And then on the Main Stage we had; Marah, Shakey Graves, Railroad Earth, The Punch Brothers, and Counting Crows to close out the night!
There was no more than a 1/2 hour overlap on any stage so you could in essence, if you were crazy enough to try (and many did) catch some of every act! The festival is very Child Friendly with lots of scheduled fun for the kids as well! Hat making, a Kids Drum Circle, and a Kids Harmonica Workshop to name a few! The weather proved to hold true to the name of the festival as it was sunny and hot all day! The multitude of vendors made sure that there was plenty of food and drink for everyone and the merchants selling there art and wares provided plenty for all who were there! As far as I am concerned this Festival has one of the BEST VIBES of any festival in the area! Thank You Hot August Music Festival for an Amazing Day!!!

The sixth annual Catskill Chill Music Festival “A Farewell to Minglewood” will take place September 18-20, 2015, at Camp Minglewood in Hancock, New York headlined by preeminent jam band moe. This is a very special year for the much-loved three-day music and art gathering because Catskill Chill will move to a new home in 2016.

Joining moe. at the top of this year’s line-up is Lotus, Zappa Plays Zappa, Lettuce, Electron, The Motet, Dopapod, Kung Fu, Twiddle, Break Science, Turkuaz, The Werks, Particle & Fam, and George Porter Jr. & The Runnin’ Pardners.

While the performance schedule alone is reason enough to attend this annual event, it is the intimacy and unique grounds that make Catskill Chill one of the most highly anticipated festivals of the season and this year is expected to sell out. With a limited capacity, no campsite is more than a few minutes walk to the stages and anyone can make their way up to the front for their favorite sets. Hosted at a secluded performing arts summer camp where childhood dreams merge with the music festival culture, the “Chillfam” as Chill’s loving community have coined themselves, bunk-up in 16-32 person sleep away camp-style cabins, creating decorated theme camps intermingled amongst the campers.

The festival also features free parking, free camping, daily yoga, live art, a farmer’s market, craft and food vendors, a communal bonfire nightly and an open mic. Kids under 12 are free, but must be accompanied by an adult.

My Morning Jacket at The Fox Theatre

An opener of “Tonight I Want to Celebrate With You” set the stage for an all time performance by My Morning Jacket at the historic Fox Theatre on Friday night in Atlanta. That was the message Jim James and company sent to an electric crowd that filled the picturesque venue. The band delivered on their statement, celebrating in glorious, face-melting, fashion.

The night began with a hot start shifting directly into “Off the Record”, followed by an old school rocker, “The Dark”. The first track of the show off the band’s new album “The Waterfall” came next as howls from James reverberated throughout during “Spring (Among the Living)”. His haunting vocals set up a perfect transition to the next song “Wordless Chorus”, a crowd favorite that had the entire theatre singing in unison.

“O is the One that is Real” and “What a Wonderful Man” followed, keeping the energy high before slowing down the pace for the beginning portion of “War Begun”. This spectacular version of the song built up toward a frenzied finger tapping solo by James, before mellowing into “I Will Sing You Songs”. “Circuital” came next, after which James addressed the “Hotlanta” crowd proclaiming that it is “always a pleasure to feel the heat, feel the intensity, feel the raw power that is Hotlanta.” The playful stage banter seemed to foreshadow what would come later from the band.

2 new songs “Believe (Nobody Knows)” and “Tropics (Erase Traces)” paved the way for some of that Hotlanta heat and raw power that James spoke of. A heavy, Metallica-esque intro to “ “Dondante” fueled an epic rendition of the psychedelic tune that rode a wave of metal-like riffs throughout its performance, culminating with a smooth, sax solo by Carl Broemel.

The band ended the rocking set with “Easy Morning Rebel” and “Magheetah” before leaving the stage to come back out for a 6 song encore. “Smokin From Shootin” kicked it off, followed by “Touch Me I’m Going to Scream Part 1”. “Touch Me I’m Going to Scream Part 2” immediately came next providing the boogie for a transition into “Cobra”. The band chose to move right from the heavy guitar section of “Cobra” to the shredding dance party track “Highly Suspicious”. A soaring “Gideon” closed out a stellar first leg of the 2 night ATL run.

Higher Learning sign to 1320 Records

Higher Learning has most recently signed onto STS9’s record label, 1320 records and has released a brand new single entitled “Lok”

{From 1320 records} Tearing through space and time in a rickety Moog-powered spaceship, Higher Learning is well on their way towards the outer reaches of Jupiter. Armed only with the spirit of exploration, the four psychonauts from the streets of Atlanta, GA gaze through the haze of the cockpit out into the little-known expanse of our fine universe. Their mission, daunting as it may be, is simple at its core: to distill the cosmos into sound. Their natural abilities to endure long periods of isolation and odd sleep schedules have enabled them to strive towards this goal with unbridled tenacity. Over the course of their journey, they have performed at festivals such as Wakarusa, Moogfest and Counterpoint to sharing the stage with artists such as Tycho, Lotus, Big Gigantic, Papadosio, Bluetech and EOTO to name a few. Heartless Bastards in Baltimore, MD

The Heartless Bastards headlined WTMD’s 1st Thursday at Canton’s Waterfront Park in Baltimore Maryland and they ROCKED THE HOUSE! Erika Wennerstrom’s high energy really grabbed the audience and also moved the band from song to song in a very fluid motion! Jesse Ebaugh on bass was holding down the bottom end while Dave Colvin kept the beat rolling on the drums while Kyleen King, who was a real treat, brought everything together on guitar and keys! The weather held out and the crowd had a great evening!

Phish – Tuscaloosa, AL – Tuscaloosa Amphitheatre – 8/2/2015

Phish has fallen in love with the South in recent years playing some of their finest 3.0 shows in Alabama and Georgia while making a name stay at Pelham’s Oak Mtn. Amphitheatre, Orange Beach’s The Wharf Amphitheatre and Alpharetta’s Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre and Atlanta’s Aaron’s Amphitheatre at Lakewood.

This past weekend, Phish continued their trademark “Never Miss A Sunday Show” by making a return to Tuscaloosa, AL after a 24yr absence from the popular college town. Embracing the city’s newest music venue, Tuscaloosa Amphitheatre, fans would be treated a continuing theme through out the 2015 tour: Monster Second Set.

The venue sits on the Black Warrior River in the west Alabama town that serves as home to the University of Alabama and, in its short time of serving music, has already had the likes of Widespread Panic; Umphrey’s McGee; Willie Nelson; John Mayer; Neil Young & Crazy Horse; and Crosby, Stills, and Nash to name a few and is quickly becoming a hot spot for the South.

First set would be Phish in solid form with a Sample/Chalkdust opener, Gordon’s Meat (first appearance for 2015), a stellar Maze, and 46 Days > Cavern closer. Second set would open the doors full steam ahead with a quintessential Disease opener clocking in at almost 20 minutes and the heat never stopped. Camel Walk grew legs out of DWD and worked itself perfectly into a sexy, sassy Seven Below (also a 2015 debut) which Mr. Anastasio nailed perfectly. A seamless second set would be on fire with Fuego next right into a dance party many had waited for all tour with 2001 (Also Sprach Zarathustra) causing the entire massive pit to be funking it up only slightly slowing down for a sweet Harry Hood followed by the end is the road Possum. Another first of 2015 appearance, A Day In The Life, manhandled by Page, was the encore of choice.
